Effective July 1st, 2026, the City of Kent is using RITA for all municipal income tax matters.

Businesses located in the Joint Economic Development Districts will now file their taxes, W-2s, and all other forms using the Regional Income Tax Agency or RITA.

For Income Tax inquiries in the City of Kent, please call 440-526-0900 or 1-800-860-7482. You can also visit the Regional Income Tax Agency (RITA) website. From this website, you can file your municipal taxes electronically, lookup specific information, and view and print tax forms.

For all businesses in the Brimfield or Franklin Joint Economic Development Districts with income tax questions or needing forms, please contact RITA using the information provided above.

Current Income Tax Rates

  • Brimfield-Kent JEDD Businesses Only - 2.00% (Effective Jan. 1, 2025)
  • Kent-Franklin JEDD Businesses Only - 2.00%
  • City of Kent Residential and Businesses - 2.25% (Starting Jan. 1, 2014)

Who Must File:

  • Every resident of Kent aged 18 years of age or older (whether or not tax is due thereon) shall make and file a return annually.
  • Retired persons must file a final return stating they are retired. Future filings are not required for retirees unless they have earned income, then they must again file a tax return.

Failure to return all applicable forms by the due date may result in your being summoned to appear at the Tax Office in person with your tax records. If you had no taxable income, write 'none' on lines 1, 2, and 3; sign this form & return it by the tax filing deadline. Please read all information carefully and use proper forms.

Kent City Taxpayers & Businesses - Important Notice

The City of Kent joined the Regional Income Tax Authority (RITA) effective January 1, 2009.

All W-2s, Reconciliations, and income tax forms will be sent to RITA. Taxpayers are able to take advantage of electronic filing and payment. Questions may be directed to them by calling 1-440-526-0900 or 1-800 860-7482.
